Product description
Drawn by: Christian Krohg, 1899
About the illustration:
"The image shows Einar Tambarskjelve in the cramped room aft on Ormen Lange during the Battle of Svolder in the year 1000. He draws the bow and sends arrows faster and harder than anyone else, one hits the steering pole above Earl Eirik's head, another flies close by. The earl shouts to the archer Finn to shoot the tall man. Finn's arrow hits the middle of Einar's bow as he draws for the third time, and the bow breaks. King Olav Tryggvason asks what broke, and Einar replies: "Norway from your hand, king!" Olav throws his own bow to him, but it is too weak. Einar throws it back, grabs shield and sword. At the same time, Olav stands in the lifting, shooting both bow and spear, two at a time. He sees the men strike without effect and shouts: "Are you swinging dull?" A man replies that the swords are dull and broken. Olav opens the hay chest, hands out sharp swords. As he stretches out his hand, blood runs under the chainmail sleeve – no one knows where he is wounded.
